A Letter to America

·

Dear America,

America home of the free, land of the brave or at least thats what we claim but are we really the democratic society our forefathers fought and died for so many years ago? I say no. Looking at the Statue of Liberty for some possible glimpse of hope in the madness that surrounds the United States in these turbulent times I come to the engraving that to so many mean a new world:

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.

I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

America we gave you our poor and our tired and how did you repay them? You threw them into sweatshops and factories put them in subsidized housing and projects to keep them out of the view of the factory owners and the CEOs. You enslaved their children and exploit and prostitute them out for nickels in dimes and what protection does the poor immigrant have? None! Exploitation and corruption run rampant and we the American people pretend we are in a dreamland that will never end but its only a matter of time until the average American has a clear view through the smokescreen poured on by the capitalist oppressors and will see the true world as it is.

America a government for the people and by the people but no more America is a government for the rich and by the rich. Which was quickly proven after the devestation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The working class citizens and African-Americans were left to fend for themselves told by the government to evacuate themselves! They own no cars but the government expects them to carry all their possesions on their back and try to outrun a hurricane? Outrageous and thats not even including the elderly and the sick in hospitals left to die because the government had better things to do like securing the oilfields of Iraq and refusing to listen to the common Iraqi who have asked us politely to leave but the Bush Administration refuses to listen as they continue to fund the corrupt Haliburton mercenaries.

All nations should be viewed on how they treat their worst off citizen and if that is the case the United States is no better or worse then the regimes the US wishes to stamp out. We have so many homeless in this country yet we are one of the richest nations in the world? Does this not sound wrong, corrupt and despicable to our senses of humanity? While most of us dine on a fairly good meal there are people on the streets of the United States starving to death! The United States has long shown how it treats those that embarrass it only look on the streets of any city and you will most likely find a Vietnam War Veteran who is being swept under the rug to die a quiet death so the government doesn't have to pay or even look at him! The shame and now with Social Security under attack by the Bush Administration it is only a matter of time that the difference between us the working class and the homeless will be that we have money at the moment but with the turbulent times we face economically we will have no safety net and will be on the streets ourselves while the Presidents and CEOs might have to wait for their third condo in Hawaii for a few months.

I would hate for our Founding Fathers to see this nation as it is now its an embarrassment to the world. With so much wealth controlled by the few we are no different then the British Empire that oppressed the colonies back in the 1700's. With the government now abusing the Emminent Domain act and seizing the property of the working class citizens and miniorities offering them petty cash for their housing or seizing it altogether to make way for higher end housing so they can make more money off the property tax. Its despicable that we act like a tyranny that our Founding Fathers fought against so many years it makes me disgusted to see how low the government is willing to go to scrounge an extra nickel and dime.

To my fellow citizens, members of the working class and comrades I offer my friendship and solidarity. With our knowledge that we can not stand idlely by when tyranny reigns without recourse we like our Founding Fathers must make a stand and say enough is enough we shall no more be the victims of the ruling class and the capitalist system! The goverment works for us and it should be time we give the criminals in Washington a wake up call they depend on us for job security not the other way around.

Sincerely,
